Ohio's core family statutes live in the Ohio Revised Code Title 31 - Domestic Relations. Some large counties such as Franklin and Cuyahoga let people without lawyers e-file divorce and custody papers, while many counties still require paper filing.

How the Ohio court system handles family cases

Family cases in Ohio are heard in the Court of Common Pleas, usually in the Domestic Relations Division. Divorce and custody are heard in the Domestic Relations Division of the Court of Common Pleas.

Each county has its own Court of Common Pleas.

Appeals from a family case generally go first to the Ohio District Court of Appeals, and the state's highest court is the Supreme Court of Ohio.
